A little history ...

The Internet consists of millions of computers – around the world –
which are linked so they can "talk to" each other.

The Internet is OLD!

In the middle of the last century, the ‘Net began as a network of 4 super-computers,
located in the United States. People certainly didn't rush to use it: it took 20 years for
just 50 universities and military facilities to communicate in this way.

In the 21st century, millions of computers – in homes, educational institutions,
workplaces – communicate via the Internet. Its current popularity is reflected in
the fact that Internet users access the ‘Net to:

  • communicate with people or groups (via e-mail, chat rooms, bulletin boards, lists)
  • obtain information
  • buy or sell products.
