Aim

The aim of this project was to develop a practical planning model to assist VET practitioners focus on issues related to teaching and learning styles that facilitate online learning.

This was in response to a need identified in the Teaching and Learning Styles that Facilitate Online Learning &endash; Documentation Project.

Methodology

The findings of the Teaching and Learning Styles that Facilitate Online Learning &endash; Documentation Project, informed this project. In response to identified needs for a practical planning model, an online resource was developed by the Project Team over a six month period. The result was the Checks and Balances Planning Model for Online Design.

Timelines

The project was developed between January &endash; June 1998.

A group of 'critical friends' gave input into the development of the model.

The Checks and Balances Planning Model for Online Design provides a practical framework to encourage educators to consider online design in terms of:

Challenges/Difficulties

The challenge was to remain practical. The project was built on the Quality by Design: Demonstrating Best Practice in Instructional Design and Delivery Mechanisms project which provided the theoretical basis for the model.

Dissemination Strategy

The model is an online resource. It is being promoted in several forums.
